Movies That Have Doctors

What is a hero? Is it a guy who goes around town fighting crime while wearing a mask? Do we have everyday heroes? Our society loves to focus on the bad and rarely focuses on the work of people who continuously help people day in and day out. Doctors are among some of these unsung heroes. We expect them to work on our family and friends but don’t often give them the recognition that they may deserve. While thinking about this concept, I wondered if Hollywood eve depicted doctors in a positive light. This article will look at movies that showcase the hardships and talents of those who save our lives every day. We as citizens could not be where we are today without our doctors.

In 1998 Robin Williams stared in Patch Adams. The movie is a true story based on Hunter “Patch” Adams. Once a troubled man that spent time in a mental facility, Patch changed his life around and found his calling while seeking help. He learned that he could help people with the help of humor. Upon discovering this, he vowed to become a doctor and continue to help heal people. Through his schooling he learns that the medical world does not agree with his style of helping people. The movie follows his journey and his struggles.

Have you ever wished that you could talk to your animals? Ever wonder if they know what we are talking about? In Dr. Dolittle, these questions are raised. Eddie Murphy plays Doctor Dolittle who is able to hear animals talk after he almost runs over a dog on his way home right now. We find that this is actually a repressed ability from his childhood. The movie follows the Doctor as he tries to navigate his new talents while trying to get people to believe that he is not crazy.

Dr. Jack McKee has made quiet the life for himself in the film The Doctor. The movie follows his very successful life as a doctor. Views believe that he seemingly has no problems. However, he soon finds out that he has cancer. Now it is his turn to have the patient’s perspective. He is unhappy with what he sees from the patient viewpoint and realizes that there should be more to his life than being a famed surgeon.

Taking a more romantic approach to the lives of doctors is the City of Angels. In this movie we meet Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. Cage plays an angel that falls in love with Maggie. Maggie has a hard time believing in anything supernatural because she is a doctor and believes that she is the only one who can save people. Cage must soon learn if being an angel is more important to him rather than having a chance with Maggie.

These movies show us a different side to what we typically consider a doctor to be. A doctor can be a hero. Every day they go and try to impact someone else’s life for the better. After watching these movies you will probably have a better appreciation for what these individuals are able to achieve.
